Common & Proper Nouns

Know how to use proper and common nouns

A noun can be either common or proper. A proper noun is the name of something specific, such as a person, place, company or idea. They are capitalized because they are names. Common nouns don’t identify something specific by themselves. They are only capitalized if they are the first word in a sentence.
