We live in a modern society and use fossil fuels for many of the things we do. Fossil fuels include coal and oil. We use coal to generate electricity, and we use oil to power the engines in our vehicles. To get the energy out of coal and oil, they must be burned. When fossil fuels are burned, they give off gases that are released into the air.
